Murals for Communities 2020 in Waterford, Ireland
Waterford, Ireland

The final leg of Murals for Communities 2020 has now kicked off in Waterford (Ireland), from August 5th to August 15th .

Transnational mural artists Aches (Ireland), BURPK (Netherlands), Martynas Auz (Lithuania), together with the local mentor artist Niall O' Loughlin, and local artists Decoy (Ireland), Magdalena Karol (Ireland), will hold brainstorming arts workshops with three local community groups based in Waterford.

Due to Covid, the international artists, to comply with restrictions in place in each country , are not able to travel. Also the workshops, due to the need for social distancing, will be held online. The new contingency plan put together by the 3 partner management teams allows for the 2 transnational artists to collaborate with the 2 local artists to develop a sketch that will then be painted on walls in Waterford City by the local artists. The artworks will be a direct interpretation of the ideas elicited in the series of workshop activities held with the Vita Community Hub (Rehab centre for young adults with disabilities), Aiséirí Céim Éile (a secondary treatment centre based in Waterford city for men and women in recovery from addiction) and Killure Nursing Home.

We very much look forward to the second leg of the Murals for Communities programme in Waterford this year and to hear the feedback from the community groups, artists and businesses who were involved with this really exciting programme.
